On May 17th, Ms. O'Neil and 13 engineering class students visited Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, where they explored their advanced electron microscopes. These powerful instruments can magnify objects as small as nanowires, which are thousands of times thinner than human hair, with a diameter of only 50 micrometers, where they could even see Lincoln's image clearly on a penny. The students had the opportunity to operate the microscopes, examining various samples, including bugs, guitar strings, Velcro, leaves, and LED screens, down to the cellular and diode levels.
